Damp is a common problem in a lot of properties and can stem from a number of issues. Finding what is causing your damp can send your head spinning and often results in spending needless money and time to no effect! at Dorset Damp Course we have specialist damp surveyors who will visit your property and pinpoint what is causing your damp and advise you on the best solution to make your property damp free. We also have a team which can carry out all remedial works to the property to the highest standard. Below we have listed some common damp causes:
Rising Damp is simply, water from the ground that enters a structure by capillary action. Water that enters or affects a building through any other route can move about in various ways but is not rising damp. Only rising damp can be cured by the installation of a chemical damp proof course.
Blocked cavities are another common cause for damp and this can be caused by simply having some debris blocking the cavity and causing water to bridge from the outer wall skin across to the inner wall skin, thus showing damp on the inside wall of your property. Another common issue is Cavity wall insulation that is becoming more of a problem as this is an ideal bridging source for damp and unless the outer skin of you wall is water tight there is a strong possibility that you will experience internal damp problems.
